Caminito orchestra escuela
Hola! After a great tango weekend at Benslow Music (middle photo) inspiration hit David Bailey and myself! We have got a new project underway that I'm really excited about and I wanted to tell you about it and see if you'd like to take part or know someone who would like to take part!
I have joined up with the El Amanacer in Reading (elamanecer.co.uk) to create a London based Tango Orquesta Escuela -called Caminito - this is a tango music training orchestra for semi-pros and amateur musicians. You need to be able to read music and having the equivalent of a Grade 3 standard upwards would be very helpful. There will be 4 performances throughout the year at real milongas to recreate the feel of tango as it is in Buenos Aires, and one rehearsal a month of 4-5 hours in London on either Saturdays or Sundays.
The the rehearsals are held in Hithergreen.
We will be asking students to pay to join this project in order to help cover the cost of room hire, rental of keyboards and other equipment and to pay the tango music teachers. The current fee is £45 per session, but payment is expected for the full Semester. We plan to bring in teachers from Argentina when they are on tour in the UK and possibly join in up with the Teddington Tango Orchestra to have a great big event together! The monthly rehearsals will be held by myself or other tango musicians from London or Paris. So far we have Enrique Galassi (bass), John Turville (piano) and Corina Piatti (voice) who work with us as assistant teachers.
We will be adding tango dance lessons and possibly Spanish lessons as additional extras for those interested. Please ask for more details.
For those who are interested please let me know what your level is (arrangements will cater to the various levels of the students).
We ask that those who decide to join, to commit to the performance and rehearsal dates so that we can create a great orchestral sound and have fantastic performances together!
We will build up over the year from a few pieces in the first milonga in October to hopefully a full set of 45 minutes or more by June next year!
The instruments we are looking for are:
Accordion/bandoneon
Violin/viola/cello
Double bass
Piano
Guitar
Flute/clarinet
Voice
There is no limit to how many students we can accept so feel free to join us!
Thanks for reading and hope to play tango with you soon!
